IUSB's Turmero, ONU's Snoreck Gain Weekly Baseball Accolades
CHICAGO --- Luis Turmero's .875 slugging percentage over four games for Indiana University South Bend and Tyler Snoreck's complete-game shutout for Olivet Nazarene University during the seven-day period ending Feb. 22 have resulted in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly baseball honors for the pair, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Turmero used two doubles and a pair of home runs to author the slugging clip on his way to CCAC Player of the Week recognition. The junior catcher finished a four-game weekend set with Grace College (Ind.) batting .375 with six hits in 16 at-bats. He also drove in six runs and scored three times.
Turmero increased his production as the weekend progressed, starting with one hit in the second game of the doubleheader on Friday. On Saturday, the Orlando, Fla. product went 5-for-9 with three runs batted in in the twinbill, going 2-for-5 in the opener and 3-for-4 in the nightcap.
For the four-game series, Turmero did not commit an error, fielding each of his 23 chances cleanly.
Indiana South Bend wound up splitting the weekend set to put its record at 5-6 on the year.
Snoreck's impressive mound performance warranted CCAC Pitcher of the Week accord. The sophomore right-hander from Bradley, Ill. struck out 11 batters against just one walk with seven hits allowed in the nine-inning masterpiece, a 5-0 win over Bethel University (Tenn.) on Friday.
ONU went 2-1 over the weekend to sit at 2-9 overall.
