Week 6 Baseball Honors Claimed By VU's Gilmore, SAU's Guzman
CHICAGO --- Viterbo University's Xavier Gilmore (Washougal, Wash.) and St. Ambrose University's Dominic Guzman (Crystal Lake, Ill.) have claimed Week 6 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Gilmore collected the CCAC Player of the Week award after producing multiple hits and driving in at least one run in each of his four games played during the seven-day period between March 9-15. He finished the week with 10 hits in 16 at-bats for a .625 batting average and drove in six runs.
The junior outfielder also had a pair of doubles, walked three times, stole five bases and scored four runs.
Gilmore's biggest game of the week came on Friday when he went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, three runs batted in and two stolen bases in a 10-8 first-game victory over Indiana University South Bend. He closed out the day with two doubles in four at-bats and drove home the only V-Hawk run in a 14-1 Game 2 loss.
Gilmore also had a pair of hits in each end of a twinbill versus Trinity Christian College last Monday as well as two runs batted in, two walks and three stolen bases in the doubleheader.
Viterbo went 1-3 on the week and is 3-12 overall and 2-5 in league contests.
Guzman was recognized as the CCAC Pitcher of the Week following his 11-strikeout performance in a 2-0 decision over Olivet Nazarene University on Friday. The senior hurler worked the first six innings of the contest and allowed just two hits and three walks.
Guzman, who improved to 4-1 on the season, has not allowed an earned run in his last 16 innings on the mound.
St. Ambrose is now 4-2 in conference play and 9-10 overall after going 1-2 last week.
