SXU's Martz, TCC's Hesse Land Baseball Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- A near no-hitter from Saint Xavier University's Cole Martz (Huntington, Ind.) and 10 runs batted in over just five days by Trinity Christian College's Zach Hesse (Tinley Park, Ill.) have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball weekly honors for the seven-day period ending April 19, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
Martz, the CCAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, was one out away from a seven-inning no-hitter on Friday. In the end, the junior hurler had to settle for yielding just the one hit and one walk opposite ten strikeouts in a 3-0 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph. His WHIP on the day was 0.29.
Saint Xavier went 4-0 on the week to up its records to 28-14 overall and 19-9 in CCAC play.
Hesse hit for power en route to his CCAC Player of the Week distinction. He authored his 1.188 slugging percentage via one triple and three home runs, which helped him drive in the ten runs over five games. His other four hits resulted in a .500 batting average (8-for-16) all told.
