Saint Xavier Sweeps Men's Volleyball Weekly Honors For Fourth Time

CHICAGO --- For the fourth time this season, Saint Xavier University has swept the three Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Player of the Week awards after yet another perfect seven-day period.  Recognized this time around were Hayden Grange (Mission Viejo, Calif.), Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb.).

Daniels headlined the group with his eighth CCAC Setter of the Week award.  He averaged 10.5 assists per set over his two matches and eight sets played to go along with 11 digs and three blocks.

The junior assisted on 53 kills and had seven digs and two blocks in a five-set win over Indiana Institute of Technology on Saturday.  Last Tuesday, he recorded 31 assists, four digs and one block in a straight-set win over league foe Judson University. 

Velez established a new school record en route to his fourth CCAC Defender of the Week award.  He averaged 4.18 digs per set and completed 49 of his 50 pass attempts over three matches.

The senior libero set the team record on Saturday when he authored 27 digs (5.4 avg.) in the five-set victory opposite Indiana Tech.  In that same match, he provided 27 receptions.

Velez produced his other double-double of the week when he totaled 10 digs and 14 passes in the Judson win.

Grange used a solid all-around performance to earn his first CCAC Attacker of the Week recognition.  He produced a .405 hitting percentage with 17 kills, 11 service aces, six blocks and seven digs over 11 sets played covering three matches.

The freshman middle blocker's best effort was his .500 attack percentage, seven kills, four aces and two digs in a three-set win versus Viterbo University on Saturday.  That was followed by his six kills, .462 hitting clip, four aces, four blocks and three digs against Judson.  

SXU''s 3-0 week extended the No. 2-ranked Cougars win streak to ten matches and put them at 25-3 overall and 13-0 in the league.

Other Defender Nominees: Jared Byas (Governors State), Lucas Sanchez Caixeta (Calumet St. Joseph), Styrk Myhre (Viterbo), Jackson Otto (Judson).

Other Setter Nominees: Logan Amdur (Viterbo), John Agee (Calumet St. Joseph), Lucas Lapa (Governors State), Adrian Martinez (Judson).
