IUSB's Phelps, SXU's Peetz Secure Women's Basketball Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- Indiana University South Bend's Tenleigh Phelps (Shelbyville, Ind.) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week with Saint Xavier University's Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill.) securing the weekly defensive honors for the seven-day period ending Dec. 14, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
Phelps registered a pair of 20-plus point efforts to gain her award. In two games, the senior guard averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest. She also supplied one steal and one block.
Phelps converted 17 of her 29 total field goal attempts (.586), missed just one free throw (7-of-8) and hit on 4-of-8 three-point attempts for the week. She was 8-of-13 overall and 4-of-5 from outside with five rebounds and four assists in a 76-62 victory over Bethel University (Ind.) on Thursday night when she totaled 22 points.
Two days later, Phelps was one point better to go along with six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in a 74-71 decision over Governors State University.
The 2-0 week put the Titans at 8-4 overall and 4-2 against league foes.
Peetz notched the defensive honors after averaging 8.0 defensive rebounds per game to go along with 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks. Overall, she averaged 10.5 boards per contest.
The highlight for the freshman forward were her 12 rebounds (eight defensive), three steals, two blocks and three assists in a 69-40 win over Aquinas College last Wednesday. She provided another eight defensive boards (nine total) with one steal, one block and seven points in a 62-58 setback to University of St. Francis on Saturday.
Going 1-1 on the week, Saint Xavier is now 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the CCAC.
